Well, we returned from MagFest this past Sunday and all I can say is that it was an AMAZING experience. Great attendees, panels, and entertainment. The hotel was extremely nice and comfortable. I’m 99% I’m going back next year! Great gaming convention with an amazingly down to earth vibe.

On to the highlight of the trip for me: the “Megaman” movie panel. We ere scheduled for Saturday, 4PM. We arrived to our assigned room 10 minutes before presentation and, to my sadness, the room is almost empty…I got nervous. .

4PM comes….PACKED room. All seats filled, people are standing all around the back of room against the walls. And thus, my nervousness subsides. I get up in front of everyone, introduce actor Jun Naito and Producer/Costume Designer David Horowitz. and I say “I guess everyone is here for the Megaman movie, huh?”. LOUD cheer. Oh man, I’m feeling soooo good.

So the 15 minute preview screens. People are laughing at the right play, they are loving the character, loving Megaman, Roll, Wily and all the rest. At the end…..BOOM, LOUD applauses. I get up and ask the crowd “I guess you like it?”. Unified YES from the crowd. I’m overwhelmed with joy. We go into a 40 minute question and answer session. and after that, we pass out special DVD of the trailer and behind the scene footage to those who asked questions.

Afterwards, we signed autographs, chatted with other fans, and just had some fun! It does WONDERS to talk to other fans who truly believe in the film. Really helps one’s morale. Best of all, it’s shows how genuinely nice the supporters are. They were all kind, happy, and fun to talk to! A weekend I’ll never forget…

Also, a few unanswered questions were finally answered but that’s for another day…

This week, expect the “Megaman at MagFest” video which is a video of the Q and A session. Hope you guys enjoy and happy new year to all!

Eddie

Leading into this audition, I received hundreds of e-mails from actors interested in auditioning and being involved. From all these submissions, based on appearance and experience, I narrowed it down to the roster of those that ended up attending.

At the time of the audition, Rock/Megaman was the only character casted leaving Roll, Wily, Light, and the 3 live action Robot Masters; Iceman, Elecman, and Fireman.

The casting of Rock dates back to mid-2007 when Jun Naito expressed interest in the project. The thought of him playing Rock didn’t cross my mind until it was out in the open that he was interested. I looked at him…and it clicked. He had the look and screen presence and, on top of that, his acting ability would bring the much needed layers to the portray of Rock I wanted in the film. Also, he remembers and enjoys the Megaman. So, even both a script was written, he was cast in the role of Rock/Megaman.

The Beginning:

First and foremost, I’m a nerd. Although film is my number one passion, I love video games and the culture surrounding it. That being said, I love Megaman. Back in the early 90’s, I was first exposed to Megaman on my friend’s Nintendo Entertainment System and I instantly become addicted. The visual style, the game play, the characters, and the music. It all comes together to create one the best gaming memories I’ve had as a child. I would even role play Megaman at my friend’s house. Why play cops and robbers when you could be Megaman fighting the evil forces of Dr. Wily?

Fast forward to 2004. This was when the idea to do this film first entered my mind. Back in 2004, college student Adam Kelly created and released a small live action Megaman trailer. It was a 2-minute long student project with decent production value, effects and costumes. Why did it work? It introduced the notion and possibility of a live-action Megaman movie which excited me. Up until this point, the idea of a Megaman film never struck me. Even with all the subpar video game film adaptations of recent memory. Although I was entertained by the trailer, it’s interpretation of “Megaman”, however, didn’t sit well with me. Protoman was portrayed as a villain, Gutsman (the only robot master in the trailer) was created by Dr. Wily, and Dr. Wily was a professor at a college in Detroit. On top of that both, both Megaman and Protoman, in this trailer, were humans turned robots. Some of the changes were interesting while some just went against the mythology of Megaman. It’s forgivable since this was a college project but, as a fan, I knew a film could be done more faithfully to the source material and still work. Being an extremely aspiring film maker at the time, I knew I wanted to make a Megaman film that would do the franchise justice. I loved the game so much so it just seemed right to do a faithful adaptation. So, I began planning. It’s worth nothing at the time, I had even fewer resources than the college project had so after a month, the project was scrapped. Despite this, I knew one day, I would tackle this film. Years went on and the concept never left my head. Over the years, I went from a kid making films with his friends to someone doing more professional ventures and getting more involved in the independent film making industry.

Hello readers!

Sorry for the mega-delay (pun intended). Been rather busy with post-production on “Megaman” but finally have time to update you guys on how things are progressing over here!

With prinicle photography complete and various inserts, visual effects plates, and pick-up’s remaining, a huge relief is present with all the major days of shooting out of the way! Hard to believe how far we’ve came from the first day of production back on February 10th.

Two things to mention:

First off, the first part of the production retrospective has been written and shall be posted this weekend!

Secondly, the trailer. Many people seem to think the first released clip was a “trailer” of sorts which isn’t the case. It was merely a clip. The trailer, on the other hand, will reveal more of the film’s plot, visual design, special effects and action sequences! The release date of the first trailer will be revealed in the retrospective article this weekend so be sure to stay tuned! Thanks for the support!
